The Tubman City Youth Poetry Team (TCYPT) will be presenting a Grand Finale Slam/Performance Showcase featured by the Artists and Activists Tour.

Location: University of Baltimore, Lucy and Vernon Wright Theater, Student Center
21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue (5th Floor)
Date: Wednesday April 11, 2012
Time: 4-7pm.

The slam will feature certified judges and poets in a two-round poetry slam. The top six poets will advance to the second round and from there three winners will be crowned. First, second, and third-place winners will receive exclusive prices and points to compete at the city-wide Final Slam May 4th at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. This competition will determine the B-More Rep Squad's six members who will compete at "Brave New Voices," a week-long International Poetry Slam Festival in San Francisco featuring youth poetry teams from all over the country and beyond. (For more info on that log on to www.BraveNewVoices.org).

TCYPT was awarded $1900 by Youth as Resources in July 2011 to create a community organizing project. They created the Artists and Activists Tour, which consists of four communities: Harlem Park, Patterson Park, Cherry Hill, and Park Heights. TCYPT hosts poetry slams/community forum events, capping the tour off with this Grand Finale Slam/Showcase Performance featuring the three winners of each of the community slams, an open-mic, and a performance showcase featuring the Tubman City Youth Poets and special guest performers.

Open Mic

Young poets ages 13-19 that are interested in participating in the Open Mic should call or email TCYPT poets Lemmel Powell, (443) 765 5466 dennislemmel@yahoo.com or Daniel Wilson, (443) 560 9265 djo.wilson@gmail.com.
